History

Antarctica was first spotted on the 17th January 1773 by Captain James Cook. And then in 1901-1904 Captain Scott was the first man to set foot on Antarctica his expedition lasted for 3 years. On the 14th of December, 1911 Roald Amundsen became the first man to reach the south pole, him and his team toke 53 days to reach the south pole with pacing it with 25 kilometers a day.

On the 17th of January 1773. Adventurer Captain James Cook became the first man to sight Antarctica. Then in 1901- 1904 Captain Scott made the challenging journey exploring Antarctica but they never made it to the pole. When they were making the demanding trip home. On the way all of Captain Scott's men did not make it, with shortage of water and food and also highly exhausted. Then on the 14 of December, 1911 Roald Amundsen became the first man to reach the south pole, him and his team made the trip in 53 days. Pacing them selves at 25 kilometers a day, so that is about 1325 kilometers to the south pole.

There are about 4000 people on Antarctica in the summer and in the winter it drops to 1000. Life on Antarctica is only one freezing cold. but all the scientists that are staying on Antarctica get the supplies from ice breakers that come in and small planes. They also can catch see food. to keep warm they insulate there walls very well and wear lots of tick clothes as temperatures can -49°C, the lowest ever recorded was 89°C with the cold coming from high winds of 200 miles and hour.

There are lots of animals on Antarctica like lots of Fish, Whales, Sharks, Seals, Arctic Terns and the Penguins. there are lots of species of these creatures. The Weddell Seal is big in Antarctica they can weigh up to 600 kilos. Killer whales are one of the most powerful predators. they feast on seals, sea lions, and even whales powering there 10 centimeter long teeth into the predators.

The Weddell seal is a very big animal as this seal can weigh up to 600kgs. There are lots of animals in Antarctica such as Fish, Whales, Sharks, Seals, Arctic Terns and the famous Penguins. The Killer Whale is very dangerous to Seals and Sea Lions with the Killer Whales, with there 10 centimeter long teeth digging into the predators body.
